- Property – Managed and reviewed high-volumes of small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) claims, in industries ranging from hospitality and professional services to aerospace and manufacturing, for a number of Insurers resulting from non-physical damage cause by the Covid-19 pandemic and related government lockdowns. Work included assessment of business interruption losses and consideration of various policy and legal issues.
- Cyber – Malware attack on a payroll and human resources (HR) services provider causing disruption to customer access to Statistical Analysis System (SAS) and managed services, resulted in loss of revenue, increased overtime and third-party claims. Review involved assessment of whether the loss revenue was contractually obligated or ex-gratia and consideration of the possible policy response.
- Power – Large UK electricity producer suffered 18-month loss on one of its combined cycle gas turbines (CCGTs) following damage caused by a major windstorm. Analysed losses from wholesale profits, capacity market payments and ancillary services. This involved review of forward projection models as well as day-ahead electricity and gas prices, which was complicated by significant fluctuations due to unrelated supply and demand issues across the European power market.
- Petrochemical – Crude distillation Unit (CDU) fire resulted in business interruption losses at a French petrochemical facility. Review included analysis of actual and “shadow” linear programs, consideration of the Covid-19 pandemic’s unprecedented impacts on demand and refining margins, and the economics of actions taken to mitigate the loss of production.
- Renewables – Worked on multiple losses involving physical damage or delay in startup to onshore wind farms, solar farms and anaerobic digesters and the resulting business interruption claims.
- Property – Major storm resulted in damage to more than 400 individual facilities of a UK utility provider across 270 separate locations. Reviewed multimillion pound property damage claim in collaboration with third-party adjuster as well as the related time element losses
- Cyber – Quantified the business interruption loss for a jewelry auction house following a cyber incident. Analysis involved consideration of impacts to both online and store-front operations, including scheduled auctions and scrap gold purchases
- Liability – Performed quarterly audits on behalf of insurers of claims payments made by a residential siding manufacturer under the terms of a 25-year class action settlement, to ensure accuracy and conformity with the settlement agreement
- Conducted a review of the employment and accounting records of a U.S. company to confirm whether accurate private pension contributions had been made to more than 5,600 employees, in line with plan document requirements and individual employee eligibility, over a seven-year period.
