James is a director with Baker Tilly’s tax advocacy and controversy practice. n this role, James is responsible for advising on complex tax returns, defending taxpayers who are under IRS or state taxing authority examination, appealing agency actions and providing litigation support if the taxpayer is suing the United States over a tax position. In addition, he is responsible for working with the IRS and various state agencies to file amended or delinquent returns or abatement of penalties.
James is frequently called upon to provide legal advice regarding interpretations of federal, state and local, revenue codes, regulations and jurisprudence. He provides guidance on the standards of tax practice, the weight of tax authority and application of developing areas of economics and law to particular taxpayer’s facts and circumstances.
