Jay Staley

Jay is a director with Baker Tilly Municipal Advisors, LLC. Jay has more than 29 years of experience in PK-12 public education, including 26 years of school district experience and three years at Baker Tilly. In his current role, Jay specializes in strategic financial planning initiatives, budget development and monitoring, mentoring new school business administrators and providing school finance training.

Jay’s career in public education began as a middle school teacher. He then took on the role of building-level administrator and athletic director. Transitioning to the school’s business office, Jay oversaw the human resources (HR) department, managed the self-insurance program and handled federal and state grants. As a member of the leadership team, he contributed to district strategic direction discussions and the development of several strategic plans.

As director of business, Jay managed a $100 million annual budget, overseeing financial services, facilities and maintenance and safety and security. Most recently, he served as assistant superintendent of finance and operations, where he supervised financial services, facilities and maintenance, food services, HR, safety and security and transportation. During his in-district career, Jay had the opportunity to serve on the leadership team of several large projects, including the construction of a new middle and elementary school, the creation of a school police department, the passage of an operating referendum, the restructuring of special education services and the expansion of the preschool/pre-K program.
