Tom is a director with Baker Tilly’s development and community advisory practice. He has more than 18 years of consulting, project management, due diligence, market analysis and technology evaluation experience in the power sector, spanning traditional, renewable and distributed energy resources. Tom has consulted private companies, private equity companies, local municipalities, state agencies and federal agencies.
- Managed multiple feasibility assessments and technical due diligence engagements focused on distributed energy resources, including microgrids, combined heat and power, energy storage, distributed solar and district energy systems
- Advised emerging energy companies engaged in new technology research and development on business strategy, market sizing, financial modeling and market entry strategies for cutting-edge energy technologies. Technologies areas included high voltage grid hardware/software, energy storage, solar PV, geothermal and wave and tidal power generation
- Managed the greenhouse gas accounting for more than 10 private equity portfolio companies, including scopes 1 and 2, along with strategic roadmaps for short and midterm emissions reduction
- Developed a U.S. offshore wind market entry strategy for a multinational conglomerate addressing project development, construction, port ownership, component manufacturing and operations and maintenance strategic entry points to leverage existing corporate capabilities
- Managed the development of a preliminary front-end engineering and design for a $1.2 billion poly generation facility, including block flow and process flow diagrams, equipment sizing and design, heat and mass balances, performance modeling and detailed execution plan
- Directed a $1 million detailed design for a community microgrid involving Amtrak assets spanning Manhattan and Queens to improve resilience and provide emergency evacuation services
- Partnered with a software development company and a New York municipal utility to customize, deploy and operate advanced distribution grid optimization software and evaluate real-world cost-benefit analysis
- Created strategy and implementation plan for a southeastern utility’s efforts to acquire, ingest, validate and analyze advanced meter data from more than 2 million meters, including designing secure cloud-based architecture, advising on data validation methodologies and analytic approaches
- GAIC Critical Infrastructure Protection (GCIP) certification
