The business challenge
The company was experiencing rapid growth and was seeking assistance in creating a data strategy and program road map to set the overall business priorities, foundational architecture and core operating model to capitalize on their enterprise data. The company was facing several analytics and technical challenges commonly seen in a rapidly growing company.
These challenges included:
- Static forecasting models
- Reliance on manually entered data
- Operational reporting from multiple sources
- Varying embracement of technological changes
Strategy and solution
Baker Tilly conducted a company wide data strategy assessment to develop a plan on how to capitalize on the company’s enterprise data resources. The assessment included interviewing individuals to determine how they leverage data to meet their organizational objectives. The output of this process was a series of business questions with related metrics and dimensions. These were grouped by analytics theme and guided the prioritization of implementation while also informing the overall design of the enterprise platform.
An eighteen-month road map of high priority initiatives was constructed that allowed the client to:
- Gain clarity on how to better establish a strong analytics foundation that aligns their organization
- Create an extensive, scalable enterprise data architecture
- Begin publishing high-value analytics products to increase data visualization and insights
- Unify the understanding of data by emphasizing data literacy and analytics adoption
Following this engagement, the client hired Baker Tilly to implement the recommendations that were proposed.
