Client background
As a leading real estate development firm with over $6 billion in projects across the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast, Hoffman & Associates knew its legacy accounting system couldn’t keep pace with its expanding portfolio. The team needed a cloud-based solution that could streamline operations, support multi-entity complexity and unlock real-time insights. They found it in Sage Intacct Construction — and in Baker Tilly, a solution provider that wasn’t afraid to challenge the status quo.
The business challenge
Hoffman & Associate’s controllers have spent years navigating the limitations of Sage 300 Construction and Real Estate. The system was slow, fragmented and required multiple workarounds to complete basic tasks. They needed a system that could scale with them and align with their long-term strategy. That meant finding a platform that could support automation, flexible reporting and seamless integration with existing tools. Sage Intacct Construction checked all the boxes.
Strategy and solution
The firm teamed up with Baker Tilly in April 2021 to lead the transition. From day one, the implementation felt different.
Baker Tilly recommended third-party integrations to preserve the firm’s job cost workflows and leaned into Sage Intacct’s API capabilities to build custom solutions. The result was a seamless migration that kept familiar processes intact while unlocking new efficiencies.
With Sage Intacct Construction in place, Hoffman & Associates saw immediate improvements across its finance operations:
- Automated AP workflows: Tasks like invoice creation and cash receipts became easy and seamless. Invoice retrieval time dropped from four minutes to just 45 seconds — and 80% improvement.
- Custom reporting: Reports that once required manual Excel patchwork now run out-of-the-box. “There are so many ways to dissect a report now,” says Parada.
- Multi-entity visibility: Sage Intacct’s cloud-based architecture gives leaders real-time access to financials across all entities, which is critical for a company with a growing footprint.
Working with Baker Tilly on our transition to Sage Intacct has been one of the most impactful operational decisions we've made as a company. As a firm managing a complex, multi-entity real estate portfolio, we needed more than just a software upgrade — we needed a system built to handle the sophistication our projects demand. That's exactly what we gotTony Ruano, VP of accounting and controller, Hoffman & Associates
