At The AVE 2020, ACUA’s annual virtual event held in May, Baker Tilly higher education specialists provided a targeted overview of auditing special topics in research with a particular focus on auditing research financials. Presenters discussed common compliance challenges with regards to the Office of Management and Budget's (OMB) Uniform Administrative Requirements, Cost Principles, and Audit Requirements for Federal Awards (Uniform Guidance) and sponsor-specific regulations, identified audit techniques to provide assurance that these challenges are mitigated and reviewed how to identify red flags of non-compliance.
