In high-stakes financial disputes, the strength of a legal case or insurance claim often depends not just on the financial analysis, but how well your expert witness understands your strategic objectives and case strategy, as well as the business landscape in which the dispute is being handled. A strong team of trusted advisors willing to collaborate along with thorough preparation helps ensure the financial story of the case is clear and well-supported when it matters most.
Complex financial damages cases are never routine
While some complex projects may appear routine, nuances such as establishing the financial damages resulting from a certain incident and its impact on a business, mean no two projects are ever quite the same.
Each unique situation is shaped by the process or protocol under which it is managed: non litigation, litigation, mediation, arbitration or trial. Economic pressures further complicate matters, including rising costs, tariffs and stressed supply chains. Add emotion, personal stress and executive or investor scrutiny, and the claim process – whichever side you sit on – becomes challenging and requires a nimble and thoughtful approach.
Forensic accounting demands flexibility in an unpredictable environment
Unlike many areas of accounting which are relatively predictable, forensic accounting is not. This field of consulting requires a significant amount of flexibility as decisions are driven by court timetables and decisions, strategic considerations, the availability and completeness of data, the timing and receipt of information, conflicts and scheduling and rescheduling.
Why integrated teams matter in complex disputes
As things settle into rhythm in 2026, I have had the opportunity to look back on the second half of 2025 and consider what our team at FLVS accomplished.
I feel very proud of the team that has developed in the last couple of years, and the value of that team became evident as we closed out 2025. Between August and December, our Crisis Management team focused on several significant product recall and liability issues. These matters resulted in multiple depositions, mediations and testimonies. This period highlighted the importance of working together as a team to keep matters moving forward while remaining flexible to meet client needs and objectives.
This team concept extends beyond Baker Tilly to include financially invested parties, legal professionals and other subject matter leaders handling the case.
