Fed cuts rates, but apartment industry expects little impact

The Federal Reserve cut its benchmark interest rate by 25 basis points on Wednesday — the first downward move in nearly a year. Baker Tilly’s Brent Maier shared with Multifamily Dive that while a rate reduction lowers borrowing costs in principle, the 10-year Treasury often determines how much relief multifamily borrowers will actually see. The recent downward movement in the 10-year suggests the markets may already be anticipating the Fed’s path forward.
