Kari Munson is a managing director of Baker Tilly’s Minnesota not-for-profit services practice. She first joined the firm in 1999 and spent eight years in the not-for-profit and public sector practice. Starting in 2007, she spent close to six years with Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Twin Cities, where she was the vice president of finance. She rejoined the firm in 2013. Kari specializes in performing and reviewing financial statement and compliance audits and provides accounting and consulting services to not-for-profit organizations and higher education institutions.
- Approximately 12 years of public accounting experience providing and managing audit services, focusing on not-for-profit, higher education and religious organizations, as well as employee benefit plans of various organizations
- Financial analysis and reporting for both internal and external parties, including department heads, budget managers, finance committee, board of directors, auditors, national affiliate, grantors and government agencies
- Responsible for financial administration of restricted and governmental grants
- Responsible for proactively managing risk and safeguarding agency assets by designing, implementing and monitoring internal controls
- Worked with finance committee to revise and develop financial policies and procedures that were applicable and necessary for the agency
- Served on an executive leadership team that led strategic planning, annual business planning and budgeting, and generally contributed to the management of the agency as a whole
