Matthew Brody is a principal in Baker Tilly’s New York real estate practice. Matt provides assurance and advisory services to companies in the real estate and construction industries. His clients have included private equity firms, developers, contractors, owner-operators, property managers, and investors of all types of residential and commercial asset classes across the country. Matt has also worked extensively within the prop-tech space.
- Manages assurance engagements for real estate and construction companies, often involving audits of U.S. generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) basis financial statements
- Evaluates the design and implementation of key business processes and internal controls and makes recommendations to improve quality and efficiency
- Works closely with real estate technology companies that are bringing innovative new solutions to the industry
- Provides assurance services to entities that have issued securities under SEC Regulation A
- Expert in complex accounting areas impacting real estate companies including leases, consolidation, fair value, impairment, business combinations and revenue recognition
- Has expertise in affordable housing to support developers participating in LIHTC, HUD, and other state and local agency programs
- Serves on Baker Tilly’s Industry Centers of Excellence – Technical Committee (ICE-T), helping implement new technology, tools, and methodologies and developing educational content
- Serves as Baker Tilly New York’s Supporting Opportunity, Advancement, And Recognition (SOAR) Talent Acquisition Sub-Committee Chair
- Served as director of finance for a real estate financial technology (fintech) company partnering with multifamily landlords in major metropolitan areas, and helped the company raise money to expand its footprint
