Steven is a tax principal who joined Baker Tilly in 2005, following previous tax experience at a Big Four firm. As a tax practitioner and business consultant, he advises business owners, real estate developers and operators on complex tax matters including capital and finance structuring. His client base includes domestic businesses, as well as international joint ventures, involving inbound and outbound operations. His areas of practice include real estate and service businesses involving partnership, international and state and local taxation. He is an active member of the firm’s real estate, partnership taxation, international taxation and high-net worth individual groups.
Steven was chosen as one of Long Island’s “Ones to Watch” within the Real Estate Industry by Long Island Business News. He is a frequent speaker on a variety of tax and business topics and has published articles in various publications including New York Real Estate Weekly.
- Provides tax consulting and compliance services to closely held businesses in various industries including real estate, distribution, service providers, and health care. Also provides tax planning and consultation for the entities as well as the owners
- Provides real estate tax consulting including acquisitions, dispositions, Section 1031/1033 exchanges, Cost Segregation, debt workouts and conversions
- Structures investment in high-growth entrepreneurial entities, including planning and implementing tax attribute and tax minimization strategies
- Reviews corporate, partnership and individual tax returns and representing clients before the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and state tax authorities
- Provides consulting tax services and tax planning for high net worth individuals and family businesses
- Works closely with foreign investors making investments in the U.S. or expanding business operations in the U.S., including advising on inbound tax structuring, coordinating cross-border tax projects with foreign headquarters, and advising on federal, state and local withholding and income tax matters as well as sales tax compliance
- Advises expatriated U.S. citizens as well as high net worth foreign taxpayers, addressing the reporting of non-U.S. investments such as Foreign Bank Account Reports (FBARs), controlled foreign corporations (CFCs), passive foreign investment companies (PFICs), foreign partnerships, as well as advising taxpayers with unreported assets or delinquent tax obligations
