
Victoria Middleton is a director with Baker Tilly’s forensic, litigation and valuation services practice. She is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) and has worked as a forensic accountant since 2006. Victoria specialises in the quantification of losses for commercial litigation and international arbitration and the valuation of businesses for legal disputes including breach of warranty claims, unfair prejudice petitions and negligence claims.
Victoria trained at a Big Four accounting firm and has also spent several years working as an in-house forensic accountant and expert quantum advisor at two leading UK law firms, working alongside commercial litigators providing damages quantification, quantum strategy advice and negotiation support.
- Appointed as the valuation expert for a claimant in relation to a claim for breach of a contract for investment services. Prepared a CPR35 report valuing several Cypriot and Greek companies operating in the telecommunications sector
- Appointed as a quantum advisor to value a business acquired by a client in the education sector in relation to a breach of accounting warranties claims
- Advised on the value of a former director’s shareholding for a company providing accident management services in relation to an unfair dismissal and discrimination claim
- Prepared a valuation report in relation to a shareholder dispute, quantifying a minority shareholding in a road surfacing and civil engineering company
- Acted for a pet supplies retailer in its breach of warranty claim, advising on valuation methodology and the value of the business in light of the breach
- Appointed by a Dubai based IT services integration company to quantify its loss of profits claim in relation to a breach of contract dispute with a major U.S. software supplier
- Prepared a loss of profits claims for a European drinks manufacturer in dispute with its project manager over delays in the construction of a manufacturing facility
- Advised on the preparation of a £350 million wasted costs claim for an arbitration brought by the UK government in relation to a breach of contract dispute with its U.S. based IT supplier
- Advised an IT service provider on the preparation of a £400 million loss of profits claim and an alternative 'cost of change' claim in relation to an arbitration brought against the UK government
- Advised on the preparation of a $100 million wasted costs claim resulting from a breach of contract for a Nigerian company in the oil and gas sector
- Instructed to carry out a financial review into several high worth transactions for a property development business engaged in succession planning
- Advised on a business acquisition, providing financial due diligence on four target entities on behalf of the buyer engaged in the marine renewable energy market
- Performed a reputational and financial review into a Malaysian company seeking to partner with a UK client on a large UK based construction project, reporting on financial health, financial forecasts and recent projects
- Performed a reputational and financial review for a client in the hotel sector in connection with its acquisition of a London hotel, reporting on the historic performance of the hotel, management's forecasts and beneficial ownership of key suppliers
- Acted on an FCPA investigation for a large multinational telecommunications client, as part of an international team of forensic accountants and lawyers investigating allegations of bribery and corruption, reporting findings to the client and the SEC
- Appointed by two major insurance clients to quantify COVID-19 business interruption claims for more than 150 policyholders in the retail and hospitality industries
- Acted for a major insurance client as part of its complex claims panel, reviewing all complex COVID-19 business interruption claims prior to an offer being made
