Collaborative combinations to support student success and institutional sustainability: lessons for boards from PASSHE’s path towards integration
May 19, 2021 · Authored by Christine M. Smith
Baker Tilly recently participated in a virtual discussion with Pennsylvania’s State System for Higher Education (PASSHE) at the Association for Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges (AGB) 2021 National Conference on Trusteeship to share PASSHE’s strategic multi-university integration story.
Today’s challenges in higher education call for boards and senior leaders to take bold steps to positively impact student and institutional success. The example of planned multi-university integrations within PASSHE highlights benefits and lessons learned in exploring creative collaborations to strengthen fiscal resiliency. In this session, PASSHE and Baker Tilly share a holistic perspective of the complexity of establishing strategic and operational collaborations within a decentralized environment and key principles for the board’s role in the success of such initiatives, including risk oversight considerations.
