Higher Ed Advisor: developing a road map for institutions to build or partner with esports facilities
Nov 16, 2021
Welcome to Higher Ed Advisor, the Baker Tilly podcast series where we speak with higher education industry leaders about practical and proactive guidance to help colleges and universities protect and enhance their value.
Tempo Novus, a real estate development company with a focus on community impact, is in the process of developing a $250 million mixed use real estate project. They are taking an unutilized asset – an old football stadium in Baton Rouge, Louisiana – and reimagining it into an innovation hub, including building an esports facility. Founder and CEO of Tempo Novus, Roy Alston, joins our podcast along with fan favorite, Dan Cardell, to provide insight on how esports facilities drive ROI and how colleges and universities can increase revenue with an esports program.
Esports, collegiate and professional, is a booming industry, and an esports facility within a larger development project offers community benefit and growth opportunities for neighboring institutions. Colleges and universities can connect with top ranked esports teams/players and local and regional facilities to grow and promote their programs.
In the podcast, we discuss the importance of developing a strategy to draw an audience (both tourists and community members) to collegiate esports tournaments and events and combining community recreation with college sports tourism.
