Client background
This company is one of the nation’s largest wholesale distributors of roofing, siding, windows and other select exterior and interior building products, tools and related supplies. They have grown to become a national organization with facilities in 49 states.
The business challenge
The client utilized a large footprint of legacy database and data transformation engines that had reached end-of-life. These legacy software packages created complexity, reliability and performance issues that affected operational and strategic business reporting and analytics.
Strategy and solution
Together with the client’s data team, Baker Tilly conducted a comprehensive assessment of the existing data environment, processes, data pipelines and source code. This assessment included:
- A designed approach to convert legacy source code and processes to modern database engines and processing tools
- Integration testing and quality assurance (QA) processes into the development lifecycle, minimizing risk of impact on existing business-facing reports and analytics
- An Agile-based approach to development, enabling the project team to have granular visibility into progress and priorities
The client was able to sunset their legacy systems far ahead of schedule, enabling them to simplify their data platform, reduce risk and improve performance and reliability of business-critical reporting and analytics.
