Client background
A not-for-profit, safety-net, acute-care community hospital with approximately 400 beds. As a vital healthcare provider, the hospital offers a comprehensive range of services, including pediatric, adolescent and adult primary care, as well as specialized medical services. Deeply committed to serving its community, the hospital often cares for underserved populations.
The business challenge
The organization went live with Epic in Oct. 2023, implementing a comprehensive suite of Epic modules, including inpatient (ASAP, ClinDoc, Orders, Willow), Outpatient (Ambulatory, Bones, Kaleidoscope), Cupid, Radiant, Beaker, Cadence, Prelude, Cheers and MyChart. However, Wisdom was not included in the initial go-live. As a result, they faced challenges managing dental workflows across inpatient and outpatient settings. To address these challenges, the organization engaged Baker Tilly to oversee the implementation of Epic Wisdom, which would consolidate patient dental care into a single, integrated platform.
Strategy and solution
The Epic Wisdom implementation began in Aug. 2024, with a successful go-live in March 2025. Baker Tilly played a pivotal role in this process by providing a Wisdom consultant, a PB consultant and a Cadence/Prelude consultant. Frequent project update meetings with Epic, BT consultants, dental providers and client leadership ensured alignment and transparency throughout the project. Following go-live, Baker Tilly worked closely with the client to transition into the maintenance phase, scaling support appropriately.
The implementation of Epic Wisdom enabled the client to move from a disparate dental system to a single, integrated platform for clinical and dental data. This transition has resulted in standardized processes and more accessible, reliable patient information.
Baker Tilly continues to support the organization by providing resources for future optimization efforts and the implementation of additional Epic modules.
