Client background
An investor owned, regulated utility company in Wisconsin that owns, operates and manages electric generating facilities and electric and natural gas distribution facilities.
The business challenge
The utility company’s aging time and attendance, payroll, and other human resources solutions were inflexible and costly to maintain as the organization’s requirements evolved. They needed to come up with a new system strategy, evaluate a variety of potential software solutions, and implement the chosen solutions.
Strategy and solution
Baker Tilly facilitated the development of a system strategy to identify and assess solution alternatives. Baker Tilly met with the utility company’s leadership to define a clear, actionable strategy for the future state organization. Through this process, the project approach and plan were aligned with organizational goals and the expectations of the engagement team. With project goals clearly defined, Baker Tilly began the requirements gathering process.
Requirements workshops were conducted with the client project team and business leaders to review current state processes, identify gaps and define improvement opportunities. Baker Tilly then developed the roadmap for the software implementation.
Next, the client project team conducted the evaluation phase, resulting in the selection of a more integrated, configurable software solution to meet the utility company’s complicated human resources and time and attendance needs. The team met to establish measurable criteria for evaluating software packages and implementation partners. This served as a guideline throughout the evaluation process. Each vendor was evaluated on critical and unique requirements, strengths and weaknesses of the software package, the implementation process, and potential technical impact to the organization.
After the company selected Kronos as their vendor and software package, Baker Tilly assisted with contract negotiation and statement of work reviews in order to design an appropriate contract that helped mitigate the risk of implementation. Once agreed upon and signed, the project team began the implementation process.
Baker Tilly assisted in the implementation phase of Kronos by providing project management, change management and business analysis support as the utility company added a new HR software suite. Through iterative phases of designing, configuring and testing the software, Baker Tilly helped to successfully transform their HR processes with the use of new Kronos technology.
